AARDRAM – Building people friendly healthcare system at the grassroots-level with state-of-the-art facilities and services

AARDRAM MISSION is one of the four schemes implemented under Nava Kerala Mission, the flagship programme of the government led by Pinarayi Vijayan. Although Kerala already has the best public health system in the country, this mission aims at improving the quality of healthcare system by introducing modern treatment facilities and people-oriented healthcare at grassroots-level. Aardram gives a facelift to the primary health centers (PHC) by transforming them into Family Health Centers (FHC) with advanced facilities. In addition to the betterment of infrastructure, Aardram focuses on delivering a comprehensive model which proposes a continuum of promotive, preventive, rehabilitative and curative healthcare.

The objectives of Mission Aardram are:

  • Transform PHCs into FHCs
  • Avail the best service of the best doctors and para medical staff
  • Reform out-patient management procedures with state-of-the-art facilities
  • Facilitate with hygienic and spacious wards, rooms, beds and toilets
  • Avail Life Saving Medicines from the hospital concerned on moderate rates

Aardram has employed digital technology to improve the functioning of the public health system by introducing a web based appointment system, virtual queues, patient reception at registration centres, waiting rooms with wi-fi facilities and so on. Many FHCs are using telemedicine facilities for the consultation of patients with specialist doctors in the hospitals of higher tier. Aardram shows the commitment of the government to make sure that the best healthcare facilities are accessible to the poorer sections of the society.
